Troubleshooting: Lid Sensor (Lid Open Error)

Is your Neon's lid firmly closed, but the software continues to display a "Lid Open" warning? This safety interlock prevents the laser from firing when the work area is accessible. Usually, this is a simple mechanical misalignment that can be fixed in seconds.

Understanding the Magnetic Interlock System

The Neon uses a two-part magnetic proximity sensor to verify if the machine is sealed. The system consists of:

  1. The Active Sensor: Located on the machine's chassis (internal frame).
  2. The Magnet (Actuator): Located on the lid itself.

When the lid closes, these two parts must align perfectly to complete the circuit and allow the laser to operate.

Locating the Components

If one of these parts has shifted, become detached, or fallen off, the software will trigger a permanent "Lid Open" status.

Component 1 (Chassis Sensor)

This part is fixed to the main body of the machine. Check its alignment to ensure it hasn't been bumped or pushed inward.

Component 2 (Lid Magnet)

This is the magnetic piece attached to the moving lid. Over time or due to sudden movements, the adhesive may fail, causing the magnet to fall.

How to Resolve the Issue

  1. Inspection: Check if both parts are present and securely attached.
  2. Re-attachment: If the magnet or sensor has fallen off, simply clean the surface and re-attach it using a strong double-sided adhesive tape (VHB type recommended).
  3. Alignment Check: Ensure that when the lid is closed, the two parts are centered relative to each other. Even a small gap or slight offset can prevent the sensor from triggering.

Quick Fix

Once the parts are re-aligned and secured, the software message should disappear immediately. You can now resume your projects safely.
