Laser Tube Lens Cleaning¶
In this guide, we will cover how to clean the laser tube lens. This specific lens is a vital part of your machine's optical path, ensuring the beam exits the tube with maximum power.
Locating the Lens¶
The laser tube lens is slightly hidden at the output end of the glass tube. You don't need to remove the side panels to reach it; a bent cotton swab is usually enough to access the area from behind the tube.
Cleaning Frequency¶
- Standard Maintenance: This procedure should be performed monthly.
- High-Intensity MDF Cutting: If you cut MDF frequently, we suggest performing this cleaning every 15 days.
- Performance Tip: If you notice a sudden drop in laser power, a dirty tube lens is often the culprit!
Safety Warning
Always perform this cleaning with the machine disconnected from the power outlet to avoid any risk of electrical discharge or accidental laser firing.
Required Materials¶
- Cotton swabs (Q-tips)
- Warm water mixed with a drop of neutral detergent
- Isopropyl alcohol (99% purity recommended)
Cleaning Procedure¶
Since the lens is hard to see directly, you must be thorough and ensure the swab reaches every corner:
- Initial Wash: Dip a cotton swab into the warm water and detergent mixture. Apply it to the lens using circular and zigzag motions.
- Thoroughness: Because you cannot see the surface clearly, repeat the process a few times to ensure full coverage.
- Alcohol Finish: Use a fresh cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Repeat the same circular and zigzag movements to remove any remaining residue or soap streaks.
- Inspection: Ensure the lens is dry and clear before turning the machine back on.
